Year 13 Students Explore Careers in Investment Management

Our Year 13 students recently had the opportunity to travel to London for a careers insight day at BNP Paribas, one of the largest banks in Europe. The day was organised by Investment20/20, an organisation that connects school leavers and graduates with career opportunities in the investment management industry.

The visit began with a welcome from Investment20/20 and an introduction to BNP Paribas Securities Services. Students learnt about the role of a global custodian and how large financial institutions safeguard and administer assets on behalf of investors, a part of the industry few of us ever see. A tour of the workplace followed, giving students a real sense of what working life in the sector looks like.

One of the highlights was the chance to meet current apprentices and trainees. Students were able to ask first-hand questions about how they got into the industry, what their roles involve, and what they wish they had known at our students’ stage. Later sessions covered the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility work, early careers routes into BNP Paribas, and advice on navigating a career in investment and wealth management.  Students were given top tips on writing their CV and preparing for the recruitment process.

Our students represented the school with enthusiasm and maturity, asking thoughtful questions throughout the day. For many, it was their first experience of a professional financial services environment, and it opened their eyes to the range of roles and pathways available beyond the university route they may already be considering.

We are grateful to BNP Paribas for hosting us and to Investment20/20 for organising such a valuable day. Events like this are an important part of our careers programme, helping students make informed decisions about their futures.
