Remembrance Poetry Competition
We are extremely pleased and proud to announce that some of our students have been recognised as highly commended poets in this year’s Harrow Mayor’s poetry competition.
Dylan Veysey (7JHP), Amba Davison (8AJR) and Zahraa Al-Jameel (12BRS) were this year’s entrants in the competition.
Dylan did brilliantly and was ‘Runner Up’ in the Key Stage 3 category with his poem ‘Remembrance Day’ whilst Amba won this category with her poem ‘Where The Flowers Grow’.
Zahra’s poem, ‘Black Sun’, won the Key Stage 5 category.
Amba and Zahra were awarded ‘Highly Commended’ and were invited to the Mayor’s reception on Remembrance Sunday.
Well done to you all.
Where The Flowers Grow
I know a place where the flowers grow
Delicate and beautiful all in a row
They hold secrets we’ll never know
I know a place where the flowers grow
Wooden crosses stand proud and still
These boys never wanted to kill
They left the comfort of the hill
Wooden crosses stand proud and still
Generations have come and gone
Yet the light in our hearts shine on
The fallen will never be forgotten
Generations have come and gone
I’d like to go where the flowers grow
For there I’ll see a light that glows
Fathers, brothers, sons now low
I’d like to go where the flowers grow
