Year 12 Biology and Chemistry Students Explore Surgical Skills at the Hunterian Museum
On 23rd March, our Year 12 Biology and Chemistry students took part in a Surgical Skills Taster Workshop at the Hunterian Museum. Led by practising surgeons, the session introduced students to key surgical techniques, including basic suturing, knot tying, and the correct procedures for gowning and gloving - mirroring real operating theatre protocol.
Students also had the opportunity to take part in a Q&A with retired surgeons, gaining valuable insight into medical career pathways and the roles that make up the wider surgical team.
“I learned how surgeons glove and gown, and how carefully they prepare themselves before entering the operating theatre.” Nisha, 12TXH
“We had the opportunity to meet two retired surgeons - one specialising in orthopaedics and the other in general surgery. It was inspiring to hear about the dedication required for their careers, with their education and training taking almost 17 years.” Reema, 12AAY and Nishi, 12TXD
“Overall, it was one of the most enjoyable and insightful trips I have been on. It has deepened my interest in pursuing a career in medicine and perhaps even specialising in surgery.” Shyaam, 12TXD
