Future Doctors at Whtimore
We were very lucky this month to have one of our ex-students, Mira Patel, and two of her colleagues from Kings College who are studying for a medical degree, visit us to talk about a career in medicine.
Nineteen students from Years 12 and 13 attended the presentation on the complexities of applying for medical school and the type of scenarios that they could encounter at interview.
The very professional talk covered all sorts of stimulating and relevant issues that included:
Medical ethics
NHS scandals
Med training course
Interview skills
Ethical dilemmas
The students had the opportunity of being put into a hot seat scenario by experiencing a mock interview followed by feedback to support them in the future.
Finally our students had the opportunity of getting one-to-one advice at the end of the session which included the importance of having relevant work experience such as working in a care home and ensuring that they have thought through their motivation for becoming a doctor.
We are very fortunate to be a linked school with the Extended Medical Degree at Kings College; this supports our students in their application for Medicine.
