Football Tournament Champions

Football Tournament Champions

On Tuesday 5th December a strong squad of 9 girls went to Hendon Football Club to participate in a 7-a-side tournament. The tournament was run and organised by the ‘Met Police’ to help raise awareness on preventing violence against women and girls. We started off the day with a strong win beating Hatch End 5-1. We were then on straight away playing St James Catholic High School. After a very close end to end game we were victorious with a 1-0 win. There was no rest for the girls a third game in a row saw us playing Ark Academy Wembley. At this stage fatigue had set in but the girls did not let this get the better of them. It was an end to end game and in the last few minutes of the game Ark Academy scored a late winner. Whitmore lost 1-0. The girls finally got a rest and an extended lunch. During lunch Rachel Yankey provided a Q&A session which gave the girls motivation for the games to follow after lunch. After lunch,  Whitmore played Saracens Academy. Saracens were a very strong & physical team. After going 1-0 down, the girls found an extra gear to come back to 1-1. A moment of magic from Isabela saw her scoring from a goal kick into the top corner. Whitmore won the game 2-1.

After 4 games we were joint top of the table with Ark Academy and Saracens. After a lot of deliberation Whitmore were placed into the Plate semi-final due to goal difference. We saw St James in the semi-final. Again we were the strongest team and we came out victorious. 2-0 to Whitmore. We had reached the final! Our final challenge was against Preston Manor. A very strong Whitmore team saw off the challenge from Preston Manor. Whitmore 2 – Preston Manor 0. We were CHAMPIONS! A great performance from the girls throughout the whole tournament. They showed great team work, passion and sportsmanship! Hopefully next year we can retain our status as champions.
