Celebrating Whitmore Alumni

Picture2On the 10 May I was fortunate to be able to attend the annual Harrow versus Eton Cricket Match at Lord’s Cricket ground. This is one of the oldest sporting fixtures in the world having begun in 1805.

I was there to support Dylan Rawal, an ex-student of Whitmore who was Vice Captain, opening batter and wicket keeper for the Harrow Team.

Dylan gained a scholarship to Harrow School after attaining ten grade 7-9s at GCSE at Whitmore High School. In addition to his hard work, Dylan is a very talented cricketer and represents Middlesex U18 Academy Squad.

Dylan put his opportunity to attend Harrow on a scholarship down to the excellent teaching and support he received from the staff at Whitmore. This, coupled with his own hard work and undoubted cricketing talent, has enabled him to be able to follow his passion. He is grateful to all of the teachers who went above and beyond to help him achieve his dream. In the future, he hopes to continue his cricket and plans to attend Exeter University to study Business Management (BSC) next year and then a Law conversion course after he finishes playing cricket.

In the game, Harrow won the toss and decided to bat. As opener, this put pressure on Dylan to achieve a big score and he did not disappoint! Despite being dropped early on he made a flamboyant 72 – with many exciting shots and five 6s and six 4s. Harrow set an immense total of 321 and Eton found responding to this an uphill struggle. Dylan also took two stylish catches and was a calm and encouraging influence behind the stumps, giving his bowlers the confidence. Harrow ultimately dismissed Eton for 230.

It was a great game to watch and showcased some of the future England talent - keep an eye out for Dylan in a few years’ time as he bids to become an international player.

Dylan added “I would like to thank the brilliant teachers at Whitmore. Their fantastic support and great teaching has enabled me to make the most of the opportunities I have been given. They made learning and life at school easier for me and guided me in the right direction. Going out to perform knowing I have so many people rooting for me is a massive help. Ultimately, it is what I still think back to when I am struggling to find success. It was a pleasure attending Whitmore, and I felt supported throughout the 5 years and it is great that they can share my successes. “
