From Canteen to Cookies to Candle Holders: Welcome new Year 7s!
On Wednesday 4th July, we were joined by our new Year 7 students for their workshop day. The day got off to a busy start with 259 Year 6 students arriving into the bustling entrance. As they arrived, students were registered and assigned to a form group, before joining their form tutors and head of year for a short introductory assembly.
During the morning, students completed team building activities within their form groups creating friendships that will support them as they make the transition to Whitmore. They were given a guided tour of the building and had lunch in the canteen. In the afternoon students were taught a lesson in their form groups, these included sessions in Art, Science and Design Technology. As they made their way down to their final assembly it was joy to see the smiling faces of students entering the hall clutching the masks, cookies and candle holders they had made during the afternoon.
Workshop day gave students a real insight into life at secondary school. It was a fantastic day, but like all good things, it was time to call it a day. Students were left with a summer reading book and some tasks to complete over the summer holiday. We’re really looking forward to seeing everyone again in September when they join us full-time as our new Year 7 cohort.
