Harrow Young Carers Visit Whitmore High School

On Friday 10th October, Ms Ruddock organised a special awareness event at Whitmore High School, that welcomed Brooke, a representative, from Harrow Young Carers. The team shared insights into the vital work they do to support young carers both within our school and across the wider Harrow community.

Harrow Young Carers is a branch of the charity Harrow Carers, dedicated to providing free wellbeing and support services for children and young people under 18 who care for a family member or friend with a physical or mental health condition, disability or substance misuse issue.

A young carer is someone under the age of 18 who takes on practical or emotional responsibilities to help care for someone close to them. Their role is often unseen, but their impact is profound - and Harrow Young Carers is here to ensure they are recognised, supported and empowered.

· Has a long-term illness

· Has a physical or learning disability

· Has mental health issues

· Is affected by substance misuse

The event highlighted to our school community the support that so many children and young people provide to family members, whilst navigating their school and personal lives. It was a truly inspiring event supported by many of our young carers. Children and young people had the valuable opportunity to speak with Brooke to learn more about the organisation’s work and reflect on the vital role young carers play every day in supporting their loved ones.

A heartfelt thank you to Ms Ruddock and Brooke, from Harrow Young Carers, for their continued  dedication in championing this vital cause and raising awareness of the incredible support available to young carers.
