Theatre visit to ‘Punch’ at the Apollo Theatre

On Thursday 13th November, invited students from Years 10 and 12 went to see the performance of ‘Punch’ based on a true story on Jacob Dunne’s book ‘Right from Wrong.’ We also had a chance to soak up the atmosphere of London’s West End and China Town prior to the show as well as the Christmas lights afterwards. It was an absolute pleasure to take our students, who were impeccably behaved throughout the trip. Below are a few student reflections about the trip:

"The play was really good and engaging. The use of lighting was amazing and really fascinating to watch. I think the actors were really thoughtful of how they portrayed each of their characters. The acting along with the narrative was very thought provoking. At the end of the play, we were given the opportunity to a Question and Answer session, in which the real Jacob in ‘Punch’ along with his mother discussed how their life changed and what experiences they had to endure. Overall I really enjoyed watching ‘Punch,’ not purely for entertainment but learning about the dangers of what a punch could potentially do to someone’s life.” Naomi, 12VFT

“Punch’ was one of the most inspiring theatre performances I have watched. The actors playing out a true story so brilliantly made me so emotional. My favourite part within ‘Punch’ was when Jacob went to meet James’ parents Joan and David. That to me was a really significant moment as you could see the pain within James’ family and how they

were trying to forgive Jacob but could not due to him taking their son. However, they do remain in close contact with James’ family. Showing to me that forgiveness can happen but it is a very slow and long process.” Marley, 12JSA

“I really enjoyed the performance of ‘Punch’ in the Apollo Theatre. Watching a group of actors bring a true story to life was an indescribable experience that I will cherish. The Question and Answer session afterwards with the company and the actual Jacob Dunne and Jean Hodgkinson was just as engaging, as not only did we get to see a dramatization of the story, but also the insight from those who actually experienced it.” Isaiah, 12VFT

ABBA Voyage

On Wednesday 15th October, Mr. K, Mr. Hau and myself, had the absolute pleasure of taking 30 Year 10 students to the performance of ABBA Voyage. It was an incredible show created through holograms, animation and a live band and singers to support the visuals. Our students had the best time dancing and singing their hearts out and everyone was ’buzzing’ on the long way back from East London. Thank you to everyone for enabling us to give our students a truly memorable experience.
