Year 12 Business & Economic Students Welcomed at UCL, Lloyd’s of London and the Bank of England

On 17th April, ahead of their AS exams and future university applications, our  Year 12 Business and Economics students set out to broaden their horizons with visits to UCL, Lloyd’s of London and the Bank of England Museum.

The day began at UCL, where students enjoyed a guided tour of the campus. They were then joined by Whitmore alumnus Zaki, now a UCL student, who offered thoughtful and practical advice on succeeding at A Level and thriving at university. Hearing from someone who once stood exactly where they are now was a highlight for many.

After lunch in the UCL canteen, the group split - what Mrs. Warwick fondly described as “a mad trip” - with Business students heading to Lloyd’s of London and Economics students visiting the Bank of England Museum.

At Lloyd’s, students gained insight into how global insurers help organisations manage risk. They were fascinated to learn that Lloyd’s has been involved in major historical events, including the insurance of the RMS Titanic.

Meanwhile, at the Bank of England Museum, Economic students explored the role of central banks and the evolution of the UK’s monetary system. Lessons about inflation became even more real when students compared the cost of a simple burger in central London - or heard what the student tour guide pays for accommodation.

It was a day packed with learning, inspiration and a glimpse into the worlds our students may enter.
