Achievement Evening 2017
On the evening of Tuesday 11th July, Whitmore High School hosted its annual Achievement Evening to celebrate the successes and resilience of its student body.
Achievement Evening is designed to recognise academic achievement and effort across the curriculum, as well as contributions to the wider school community, including sport, business and enterprise and charity work.
This year, the school was honoured to have award-winning film director (and ex-student!) Gulrukh Khan speak at the event, and award students with their certificates and trophies.
Winners were joined by their parents and carers, as well as the school’s staff and governors, who watched with pride as they met Gulrukh Khan on stage to receive their highly deserved awards. Guests were also treated to performances by the school’s Jazz Band and Choir.
Year 7 student, Amyra Katyal 7JU said: ‘It was a fun event. I was thrilled to receive my awards and my parents were really proud of me.’
Year 8 student, David Derbie Owusu 8ZI said: ‘It was an amazing feeling to receive my award and be recognised by the whole year group for my extra-curricular contributions.’
Year 9 student, Elia Yousf 9TA said: ‘It was an inspiring evening and has motivated me to work even harder next year. Mrs Khan’s speech was particularly motivating and opened our eyes to what we could achieve in the future if we put our minds to it.’
It was a wonderful evening, enjoyed by all that took part. Huge congratulations once again to all our exceptionally talented and hardworking students and finally, a thank you as always to parents and carers and staff for their continuing support and contribution to their success.
