Introducing....Whitmore Peer Advisors 2017-18
On Tuesday 3rd October, 38 students from Years 7-13 assembled in the school library to be formally trained for their newly appointed role as a Whitmore Peer Advisor.
Whitmore Peer Advisors is an annual scheme delivered by the school which offers both drop-in and one-to-one mentoring and support services for students, which are facilitated by a trained Peer. The role of the Peer Advisor is to listen and encourage, as well as give help, advice and guidance where appropriate. Peer Advisors are trained to help students navigate their way through a wide range of issues, from peer pressure to goal setting.
This year’s training session was delivered by established anti-bullying charity, Kidscape, and took the form of an interactive workshop where students discussed the role of an advisor, including their qualities, conduct and practical strategies that they may use to build positive and supportive working relationships.
Fiona Musai in 11BY said: ‘I really enjoyed the session and can’t wait to begin working with other students.’
Cartier Yearwood also in 11BY said: ‘I think lots of students will really benefit from this scheme. I’m looking forward to sharing my own experiences with younger students in the hope that it will help them to make the right choices in the future.’
Students will begin mentoring students from next week.
