Year 12 Dive into Robotics Innovation
Year 12 students recently took part in an inspiring robotics workshop delivered by the Dyson Institute of Engineering and Technology (DIET). Led by Stephanie Ball, the session introduced students to the institute’s degree apprenticeship pathway and the diverse career opportunities available within the engineering sector.
Stephanie highlighted the vital role engineers play in everyday life and in tackling global challenges. From artificial intelligence and autonomous vehicles to space exploration, she demonstrated how engineering drives innovation and how students’ interests could evolve into impactful future careers.
Students then put engineering principles into practice. Using Lego Mind-storms, they programmed robots to navigate an obstacle course, testing, refining and problem-solving as they went. This hands-on activity offered a valuable insight into the creativity, resilience and analytical thinking at the heart of engineering.
Describing the workshop as “awesome,” students appreciated the chance to ask Stephanie questions about routes into the profession. We are grateful to Stephanie and the Dyson Institute for providing such an engaging and motivating experience for our Year 12 cohort.
